  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report February 2023

When February rolls around here in Puerto Vallarta I always like to look back and see what we’ve done over these last few winter months. December was full of rod-bending action with fantastic weather and we had pretty much the same in January. The pelagic fish definitely have hung around this winter. We had temperatures get down to about 63 degrees early in the morning and then get up to a perfect 76 in the afternoon. I still laugh sometimes driving to work and see all my friends and neighbor’s in jackets with 63 degrees weather. We’ve been seeing these temperatures for the last couple of weeks and we’ll see him the same in February. Let’s take a look at what we’ve been catching here in Puerto Vallarta over these last few winter months and what we can expect to catch in February. read more

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report September 2022

    September 1, 2022 Author: admin

This September our fishing report starts off with more of what we had last month.  The big marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi have started to move into our fishing grounds. The weather has been perfect with the passing of a few storms offshore. Not many people know September as one of the best months to fish in Puerto Vallarta. First, there are fewer people here with school back in full swing in the United States and Mexico. Second, we have more bait that comes into our bay and offshore fishing area. If you read my fishing report you will always hear me write about following the bait trail. If you are on the bait you will be on the fish. One of the last factors is it’s still summertime and days that are longer.  Sun comes up here in September 7.30 am and sets about 8.30 p.m. Giving us plenty of daylight hrs. To hunt down any type of fish you may be looking for. September is a great month for Dorados, sailfish, marlin, tuna and all the game fish you want to catch in the bay of Puerto Vallarta. Let’s talk about where we fish in the month of September. read more

This fishing honey hole we call Bay of flags. read more

Everybody knows that May is for mothers day and excellent fishing and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. If you’re coming down here to Puerto Vallarta in the month of May, you’re gonna be able to take out several different fishing trips. In May we have the changing of the waters where cooler water is meeting warmer water. This is great in several ways as the warmer waters bring in the bigger fish and all kinds of baitfish. read more

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report March

March 1, 2022 Author: Peter Paul Vines

When fishing in Puerto Vallarta during the month of March there are 4 things you’ll surely find. The 1st is gonna be some of the friendliest people in the world, also you will notice have incredible weather during March with cool afternoon breezes, many fun activities for spring break, and some of the best fishing on the planet.
During the month of March, we’ll see several changes in our fishing grounds and techniques. We’ll start to see the water warm-up which is a good thing for the larger marlin, blues, and blacks. We’ll see numerous schools of different bait entering the Bay and just offshore. This is a fantastic fishing factor here in Puerto Vallarta. With so much bait around the bay and so many fishing options, you will not know which fishing trip to choose. We have it all from bay fishing, overnight fishing, bottom fishing. Deep-sea fishing, offshore fishing, and reef fishing.
I always like to get people to let me know what they want to fish for when coming to Puerto Vallarta this time of the year. A lot of people don’t realize March is the best month for rooster fishing here in Vallarta. You will love taking one of our 8-hour fishing trips during this time of the year. With so many coastlines here have incredible Bay fishing along with all the other options I have listed above. And we also have incredible offshore fishing. Take a look at our incredible deep sea fishing rates.
One of my favorite trips is the 8-hour trip, where will fish inside the Bay and then blast offshore looking for some sailfish and marlin. If the marlin action is not so crazy Marlin then we will come back and hit some of those reefs for snapper, amberjack, and the most sought-after roosterfish.
One of the surprising things that you’ll find is that these bait balls can pop up anywhere at any time during the month of March. This happens quite often in the bay of Puerto Vallarta and offshore. As you’ve seen before in my fishing reports we have a lot of factors. We look for many fishing factors, but the number one factor you will find is the bait movement. If you find the bait you will differently find the fish. The fish love the right temperature water, clarity, but last but not least is the bait. Everything gotta eaten and so do the fish. So if you’re on the bait You’re on the fish. So the trick is to be on the bait when you got the right tide either coming in or going out. You will surely kill them fishing.  See some fabulous action on YouTube
When the newcomers are coming around Puerto Vallarta that may need help and choosing the right size boat or the right day just give us a call. We’ve been here for over 35 years helping folks from Bay fishing to 3 to 4-day offshore fishing trips.
If we can’t catch it you don’t wanna hook it.
Hope to see everyone out there on the water having good success here and beautiful Puerto Vallarta, where the friendliest people in the world live
Until next time we’ll keep a hot fishing rod and a cold beer on the boat waiting for you

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report November 2021

October 31, 2021 Author: Peter Paul Vines

The November fishing report is here. I want to start off with some fantastic news and tell you about several upcoming fishing tournaments. The first good news is the weather has changed to almost perfect. This is great news for the fishermen, beach goers, golfers, and especially the fishing. The cool waters here in the Bay of Flags brings in all kinds of pelagic fish. The water temperatures will be around 75 degrees until late winter. Actually, the water never gets too cold to jump in and enjoy the beaches. The most sought-after fish loves these water temperatures. The sailfish, marlin, tuna, and mahi-mahi- will be here in abundance. Take a guess what kind of tournaments we will be having in November? It will be the fish I have just listed above. The first one is for Dorados, sailfish, and Marlin. Held every year for over 15 years. There will be around 200 boats in this tournament which we won the last year it was held at Los Muertos beach. The second is the 65, th. International sailfish, marlin, tuna, and mahi-mahi. ( be sure and watch for us in the winner’s circle again this year. This tournament is one of the best on the Pacific coast. Held at Marina Vallarta with all kinds of restaurants, shops, and other cool places to see along with the weigh-in of all the fish. One of the things we like to do is post on Facebook for fishing updates and folks can take a look at what we are catching day in and day out. read more

  • Puerto Vallarta fishing report October

September 30, 2021 Author: Peter Paul Vines
    No comment yet

Seems like every year when folks up north in the United States are putting away their fishing gear as cold weather approaches, we are just getting started here in Puerto Vallarta. In October we will have several fishing changes happening this month. To start with we have incredible fishing. If you have a certain fish on your bucket list, then fall fishing in Puerto Vallarta is where you need to be. Let’s take a look at just a few of the fishing changes that will be taking place this month.
The one change everyone loves to hear is the weather. Yes, the weather changes from hot to just almost perfect. This slight temperature dip triggers some of the most unforgettable fishing we offer each year. When we down here in beautiful Mexico see the weather getting cold up in the states we know it wants to be long until our perfect fall weather kicks into high gear. This morning it was around 74 deg. The other big factor that happens in October is the rain stops. It’s like we have a light switch that we turn off in the middle of October. The rain will be missed until next June when the rainy season starts again. Until then, it’s pure fishing. If you are looking for a big marlin we have here in the Fall. Want to catch the fastest fish in the world? We have them here in Puerto Vallarta. The sailfish is the fastest fish hitting speeds of 75 miles an hour. The fishing season is about to change here in Puerto Vallarta to great to I can’t believe it. Besides the sailfish and huge marlin, we also have Dorados, wahoo, tunas, and fantastic snapper fishing. These pelagic fish loves that water temperature being between 72 to 80 deg. and guess what? That’s what the water temperatures will be all Fall long. Looking for a certain or have questions about fishing in Puerto Vallarta? Please take a look at our questions and answer page. Full info about all the different fish we catch all the way to questions about prices, seasickness, and the different boats we offer. I also offer our toll-free number from the United States and Canada. 800 430 6048. This is where you can get your questions answered in just a few min from one of our top Captains with years of experience. Try it out.
When we start seeing these perfect water temperatures, beautiful blue water, plenty of bait, and sunny days you know the fall fishing has arrived.
Most of these offshore trips will be eight hours plus. Be sure and ask via email at vallartafishing@hotmail.com or our toll-free number to see what we have been catching and where we have been finding these huge and good-eating fish. One of the really big advantages we have over most fishing companies is that we fish every day. We have several boats and are always on the water. When you fish every day you get a good feel for where the fish are biting and what baits are working the best.
If you are a hard-core fisherman or a family going out for fun we have a boat for you. We do many offshore fishing trips each week, but have more families coming out with us as well. Just let us know what your interests are and I’ll customize a special fishing trip for and family or buddies.
During the fall months, we have many repeat clients so plan on booking early to secure the fishing adventure of your dreams here in Puerto Vallarta.
How do you know you are getting a good deal just check out our prices and compare to TripAdvisor. While you are there, please take a look at our reviews as well. read more
