May fishing has started off with some really nice fish and a big celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Everyone loves a good party and who doesn’t catch marlin when on vacation here in Puerto Vallarta. The stripers are still here, but with the weather warming up we are starting to see some black and blue marlin

hore. When the water passes 76 deg. mark we start seeing more and, more of these incredible pelagic fish. For the most part, these big guys are caught trolling lures and dead bait. We the water temperatures goes close to 80 deg. We always use live bait. The 5 to 10 lbs. bonitos work the best. The sailfish are offshore and running some days around Lo de Marcos and out by the Cortbetena. These are both 10 hrs. Trips. The mahi-mahis are still hit and miss, but have been catching some of these fantastic tasting fish. The not only fun to catch but can’t be beaten for the grill. With more and more baiting moving into the bay we will see some hot fishing this summer and coming months. 
The inshore fishing action has been better than steady. There is always good fishing for yellowtail and those fish have been plentiful. Some days we have caught them schooling and some folks had to stop because the action was so consistent. Some days they start feeding and just don’t stop. The conditions are just right and there is still plenty of bait here it keeps them around for a while longer.
The Spanish mackerel, California Bonita, and snapper have kept the inshore folks happy and the chefs happy as well. Who doesn’t like some grilled snapper? The water temperatures are on the rise and will be until the rainy season hits this June. Then the real fun starts.
Until then we will just have to be happy with sailfish and marlin offshore. Along with this superb inshore fishing we are having this is enough to keep the most finicky angler happy.
